What Is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Therapy and How Is It Performed?

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) therapy implies administration of blood cells called platelets with a special mesotherapy method in skin and scalp treatments. The individual’s own blood is used for the procedure. Approximately 10 cc of blood is drawn, centrifuged and separated from red cells. The material is re-separated into a portion that is rich in platelets (PRP) and the other that is poor in platelets (PPP) after several stages of procedure. PRP material is administered to the damaged region, which is intended for treatment, with nappage method. PPP material is not disposed even though it is not as rich as PRP and applied to different body parts. PRP is certified by U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PRP?

Platelets are loaded with repairing substances and they play the leading role in tissue repair. In case of an injury, platelets gather in the wound site, secrete the tissue repair factors, primarily growth factor, and direct the stem cells to the region. Tissue repair is completed and the wound site heals within a few weeks. We also benefit from these characteristics of platelets in treatments of skin and scalp. Using the person’s own blood is the major advantage of the method. Thus, the risk of allergy is completely eliminated.
