THE MOST COMMON HAIR TRANSPLANT TECHNIQUE: FUE

The most common technology in hair transplant is FUE method that involves harvesting the hair follicles under local anesthesia. This technique creates a basis for all other hair transplant techniques. Basic phases are similar in all hair transplant methods. Hair follicles are collected, canals are opened and follicles are transferred into these canals. Angle should be different at each area of the head, as it is the most important factor to gain natural-looking hair. In the final phase, harvest follicles are placed to the canals properly

Hair transplant techniques are denominated differently depending on the devices used to harvest hair follicles, open canals and transfer the follicles

This technique is based on extraction of the hair follicular units (graft) using a special micromotor without any surgical blade. The outermost layer of the skin is removed using a micromotor with special tips (0.6-1.4 mm), such that hair is left in the middle. And follicular unit is extracted using special microforceps without harming the deep loose tissues. Each follicular unit contains 1-4 hair and follicles. Before this procedure, hair of the donor area is cut to 1-2 mm length. After local anesthesia is induced at both donor and recipient areas, follicles are transferred to the bald area one by one

Advantages of FUE technique comparing to conventional methods;

Tiny holes in the donor area close  within 1 week and no scar is left. Sessions can be applied sequentially or every other day and 1500-4500 hair follicles can be harvested on each session. So, about 3000 to10000 hair can be transplanted in one session. Unlike conventional method, there is no need to wait between sessions. No numbness, bleeding or scar develops in the donor area and removal of suture is not required. Recovery period is faster since a scalp strip is not removed from the posterior neck. In case follicles are not adequate, follicular units can be harvested from the different parts of the body (chest, back, abdomen, leg etc.) and transferred to the head.. The number of hair in the scalp does not determine whether the patient is a good candidate for the procedure. Apart from all these advantages, the procedure takes long time compared to the conventional method since hair follicles are extracted one by one. Considering that 1500-2000 follicular units can be collected in single session of scalp excision technique (conventional hair transplant-FUT), it is obvious that the ability to harvest more grafts is another reason why this procedure takes longer time. The cost of FUE technique is somewhat high, as more hair follicles are transplanted. However, one should always remind that this method was more expensive at the beginning. Regardless of the method is used; it is recommended that hair restoration surgery is performed by plastic surgeons who know the anatomy of the scalp and the scalp surgery very well.

In this method, hair follicles are extracted using micromotor with FUE technique and special sapphire tips are used instead of metal slit to open canals. Thanks to these tips, smaller micro canals can be opened and thus, recovery period is shortened.

Step Step Fue Method
Step 1: Surgery Plan

At Kolan Hair Transplant Center, recipient area is first evaluated by a doctor.  Hair transplant procedure is planned, also considering patient’s requests. In the first encounter, the severity of hair loss, recipient areas and the number of graft are determined.

Step 2: Extraction of Hair Follicles
No Pain Or Ache Hair Transplant is Possible at Kolan Hair!!!

During hair transplant, anesthesia is induced using “pressure-activated syringes”. Patients feel no pain in the procedure. In hair transplant surgeries, the most painful and fearful part is generally the injection done to induce local anesthesia. At our center, administration of local anesthesia is pain-free to maximize the patient satisfaction. For this procedure, specialized high-pressure devices are used. In this procedure, local anesthesia is induced using special anesthesia devices without any injection. In the surgery, needleless anesthesia devices spray anesthetic agent with pressure and anesthetic agent reaches the subcutaneous tissue through pores. Thanks to these devices in which only silicone cap contacts the skin, anesthetic agent spreads to larger area and thus, pain is eliminated.

Step 3: Preparing the recipient area
Blades with sapphire tips (Sapphier blades) have important advantages compared to steel tools.
Step 4: Placement of Grafts

grafts are placed to previously determined recipient site one by one. Directions (their angle to the scalp) should be precisely determined, while grafts harvested from the donor area are placed. These two strategic placements are directly related with natural looking hair transplant outcomes.
