Anasayfa » Ringworm: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment
Ringworm is known as a fungal infection of the scalp. This infection affects the hair follicles and causes hair loss. Learning more about the causes, symptoms and treatment of alopecia is important to understand and effectively manage this condition.
Causes of alopecia include fungal infections, genetic factors and immune system problems. Fungal infections can be triggered by fungal species that live on the skin. Genetic factors are more common in individuals with a family history of Alopecia areata. Immune system problems can also cause ringworm to occur.
The symptoms of ringworm begin with hair loss. At first, small round or oval-shaped spots appear on the hair. Red blisters can be seen in these spots. The spots are usually itchy and may get bigger over time. As alopecia progresses, more hair loss and bald patches may occur. Ringworm can also cause itching and skin irritation
The treatment of ringworm aims to control the fungal infection and stimulate hair regrowth. For this purpose, antifungal medications are used. Usually, these medications are applied topically and help to reduce the infection. Corticosteroid medications may also be used to treat alopecia areata. These drugs stimulate hair growth by reducing inflammation. Alopecia treatment can often be a long-term process and may require regular follow-up.
Ringworm can affect hair transplant procedures. If an individual with alopecia is considering a hair transplant, the infection must first be controlled. Hair transplantation in individuals with alopecia should be performed after the infection is completely cured. Otherwise, there is a risk of the infection spreading and hair transplant results may be negatively affected.
